Refurbishment of the Museum’s conference facilities.
The Thackray Museum of Medicine is the UK's largest independent medical museum, located adjacent to St James's University Hospital in Leeds, West Yorkshire.
Location: Leeds, UK
Sector: Education
Project Duration: Refurbishment of the Museum’s conference facilities. Multi-phase, completed on-time and within budget
Scope: To design, install and commission innovative audio visual systems that would enhance end-user experience across all locations.
Project Brief
As part of a conference facility refurbishment, AV2000 were approached by the Museum to design, install and commission new and innovative audio visual systems that would enhance end-user experience across all locations.
The key goals were to deliver the following:
Large screen, hybrid meeting facilities for the meeting rooms
A multifunctional, flexible conferencing solution for the main, large auditorium
A simple-to-use, end-user experience for all locations
Our Solution
Following a series of in-depth product demonstrations to the client to showcase the potential products and technologies suitable for this project, we finalised a proposal that would enable a simple-to-use, end-user experience across all locations.
The project was completed in three core phases to align with the main construction programme:
Conference rooms
Collaboration and general meeting spaces
Executive offices
Key Technologies:
A mobile conferencing system consisting of a 55” Touch LED screen mounted on a mobile, height adjustable stand.
A USB video sound bar system, with built-in camera, microphones and speaker, mounted beneath the screen to allow Microsoft Teams meetings to be conducted using the large screen display.
A Barco ClickShare conferencing, wireless sending device built into the system, enabling a participant to wirelessly send their laptop to the display screen.
An 86” Commercial LED wall-mounted screen.
A large, 3m wide, centrally-mounted display screen for presentations.
A new 6000 Ansi Lumen Laser/LED projector, designed to last for over 20,000 hours of use with a very low power consumption.
Two Pan Tilt and Zoom (PTZ) ceiling-mounted cameras: one to track the presenter when talking and the other to show a view of the audience.
An Extron Scaling Presentation Switcher to manage all the inputs and video distribution for the system. This was all controlled from a 7” touch screen control panel located at the AV cabinet within the room.
A QSYS Core 110F Digital Sound Processor to manage all the audio inputs to the system.
An Extron SMP Streaming Media Processor built into the AV system to allow live video and audio feeds from presentations to be streamed to different media platforms.
Results
We designed, planned and installed a range of state-of-the-art AV solutions that enhanced the end-user experience across all locations at the Museum.
This included large screen, hybrid meeting facilities for the meeting rooms, as well as multifunctional, flexible conferencing solutions for the main auditoriums.
The client was very pleased with the solutions that we recommended, and they were able to start using the rooms and the equipment immediately and in time for the grand opening of the Museum.
Post-Installation Support
We provided full handover training for the internal IT support team, ensuring immediate usability. Ongoing support ensures the solution remains up-to-date and continues delivering value long-term.
